Top 4 Non-Surgical Procedures for Men

As more and more men seemingly flock to hop on the beauty bandwagon year-over-year, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that more of them are seeking out a variety of cosmetic procedures to enhance or rejuvenate their looks.

Today, it is fairly common for men to invest in aesthetic self-care without kicking up societal judgment. The stigma seems to have diminished significantly. Scientific advances provide a myriad of nonsurgical solutions for our most pervasive beauty woes, and it’s refreshing to see more men dipping their (pedicured) toe into the world of aesthetic procedures.

Statistics from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery show that men are increasingly seeking nonsurgical cosmetic treatments, to the tune of 10.8 million dollars in 2015 accounting for 10 percent of the entire nonsurgical market.

Here are the top four non-surgical procedures men got last year.

Botulinum Toxin Injectables

These cosmetic injections block nerve signals that cause the muscles to contract. This helps to “iron out” the look of existing wrinkles for a limited period of time and to prevent the creation of new ones for as long as the neurotoxins are active. Dr. Baroody uses Botox in our Danbury office.

Consider it if: You have or want to prevent deep grooves between your eye brows, crow’s feet or wrinkles around your eyes and forehead as a result of repeated facial expressions.

Results last: Results start to show after about a week, and last three to six months depending on age, lifestyle habits and skin conditions.

Hyaluronic Acid Injectables

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance primarily used to increase fullness and volume, creating a more youthful appearance overall. These injectables — like Juvederm Ultra, Ultra Plus, Voluma, Perlane, Restylane and Belotero contour the face smoothing out wrinkles in the face, neck and hands. Dr. Baroody uses Juvederm Ultra, Ultra +, Voluma and Volbella in our Danbury office.

Consider it if: You have deep lines around the eyes, brows or mouth, or if you want to adjust the volume in your lips, cheeks, jawline or hands.

Results last: Six months to two years depending on the injectable filler (though results may vary).

Laser Hair Removal

A low-energy laser beam passes through the skin and is absorbed by the pigment of the hair, disabling active-growth follicles. Ideal candidates have dark hair with light skin because darker hair absorbs the light more, and lighter skin allows the lasers to reach the hair more easily. Dr. Baroody uses the fastest laser hair removal machine on the market (Cynosure- Vectus) in our Danbury office.

Consider it if: You are ready to remove hair that makes you feel self-conscious, be it on the back, neck, rear or anywhere else. This procedure works for both large and small areas of the body. If temporary hair removal solutions, like shaving or waxing, leave the skin irritated, laser hair removal can leave the skin smooth and hair free, permanently.

Results last: Results are permanent once all the active-growth hair follicles have been removed.

Photo Rejuvenation /IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)

Also known as a photo facial, the intense pulsed light technology can help with a myriad of skin issues, such as wrinkles and age spots, melasma and broken capillaries.

Consider it if: You have uneven skin tone, sun spots, rosacea, scars or fine wrinkles that make you self-conscious.

Results last: Photo facials can significantly improve the condition of your skin, but continued exposure to sun and various aging factors may allow sunspots or wrinkles to return. Though occasional procedures can lead to an overall reduction in these issues in the long term.
